Calculate hours worked between two times, subtract breaks, and convert the result to decimal hours — just type it like you would say it.
Counting work hours by hand goes wrong for one simple reason: time is not decimal. 60 minutes make an hour, so 9:00 to 17:30 minus a 30-minute break is not something a normal calculator can do. TCalc understands times and durations as first-class values — you type the shift as an expression and get the exact result.
The calculator below is preloaded with the HR layout: one-tap keys for common shift values and instant switching between h:mm and decimal output.
Hours worked: clock-out minus clock-in minus unpaid lunch break.
When does my shift end? Start time plus hours to work.
Weekly total from a daily shift — switch the output format to decimal hours for payroll.
Add up hours from multiple days or multiple employees.
Subtract the start time from the end time and subtract any unpaid breaks. For example 17:30 − 09:00 − 30m gives 8 hours. In TCalc you type the whole expression at once and get the result instantly.
Divide the minutes by 60: 7h 45m is 7 + 45/60 = 7.75 hours. In TCalc you don't have to do this by hand — enter the duration and switch the output format to hours, which displays 7h 45m as 7.75h.
Split it at midnight and add the two parts: a 22:00–06:00 shift is 2h before midnight plus 6h after, so 2h + 6h = 8h. Alternatively, add the shift length to the start time: 22:00 + 8h shows 6:00 AM the next day.
